New Hardware Wizard not adding new device

I have XP Pro SP2. I tried adding a new KODAK printer dock to my system and
I could not get the Wizard to install the device. I directed the wizard to
look in the specific folder where the driver is located.
I know that the driver INF file is okay because I can use the Add Printer
Wizard to read the INF file and it does see the printer I am adding.
What can I do to get the New Hardware Wizard to properly recognize the INF
file and add the device properly?

I have already tried all of the software "fixes" that Kodak offered. The
problem does not seem to be in the Kodak software as I have tried 3
different versions of their software.
At this point it seems the problems is with Windows XP.

For the computer to recognize your printer, the printer driver must be
installed on the computer. Do the following to install the driver:

1.. Close all software programs that are open on your computer, including
anti-virus software.
2.. Place the Kodak EasyShare software CD into the CD-ROM drive or visit
the Downloads and Software Upgrades Web page to install the latest driver.
3.. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the software. When the
Program Maintenance screen displays, select Modify.
4.. Select Custom installation, and verify that the printer dock is
selected.
5.. When the installation is complete, restart the computer and turn on
the anti-virus software. See the anti-virus software manual for details.

I just tried it on another machine. I installed the KODAK software (from CD
like on mine), connected the printer and it automatically installed the
KODAK printer along with the USB printing support.

This step definately rules out that the problem is with the KODAK software.

THe question that it comes down to now is how do I fix my Windows XP without
having to due a complete install or repair. Is there som wy I can fix this
problem with repairing/replacing the suspect files in Windows?

Repeating the unanswered question:
Do you have the latest chipset driver (motherboard) for your system?

Ensure that you do...

Visit the motherboard manufacturer page (or if a OEM like Dell, HP, etc -
their web site) and download the chipset/motherboard driver for your
computer and install it.

Sorry, I forgot about the second question.
Since you placed such stress on this question I looked into the BIOS issue.
HP had a BIOS update from 2002 that was the same version as what was
installed. Since you seeed to stress this, I downloaded the update and
installed it acording to HP's instructions.
After rebooting the computer, I found that I had to re-install the drivers
for the ECP printer port.
I then connected the USB printer that I was trying to get working it would
not install at first. I had to re-install the USB printer driver and then
the new USB printer properly installed.

Thanks for your invaluable help with this problem. I am glad we resolved the
problem without having to re-install Windows (losing 3 years of updates).
