New hardware will not install.

When I plug in new hardware (USB) it shows in in device manager with a yellow
bang. Clicking on it shows that "no drivers are installed". I click
"reinstall driver" and it does.

This is a pain for devices such as printers that require multiple devices to
be installed one after another. It seems that the "Found New Hardware"
dialog is not coming up and not automatically installing the device. Any
ideas why?

Fixed it. I've been looking for 2 days... anyway just in case anyone else
runs into this....

The PC thought it was running in Factory Mode. Must have been a screw up
when IBM cloned the drive to this PC.

Changing this registry value did the job.

HKLM\system\setup

change "FactoryPreinstallInProgress" to "0"

Restart and bam! installed the hardware.
