"New hardware found" --> system reboots

I'm experiencing an odd problem. I updated the firmware
on my CD-RW, and upon rebooting, Windows detected it as a
new drive (I suppose because the ID string was updated
with the new firmware). However, when the little "New
hardware found" notice pops up, it goes through the
motions of installing the device, but then the computer
just restarts.

I thought it had something to do with the updated drive,
but it's now doing this with all "new" CD drives (even my
external Firewire drive). All of these drives work fine
on another computer.

Any ideas???
