I am trying to get my sons presario 2100 running. When he brought it to
me it had a error with the old hard drive, hence I couldnt get into it
for any files. I bought a new hard drive 40 gig toshiba, which came
with out a install disk. Now I have a new hard drive no boot disk, no
floppy drive in laptop. I do not have a boot disk to actually boot the
laptop, or to format the hard drive. I have been trying different op
systems that I have and I cant get any of them to boot. I am lost,
please help.
Thank you

Compaq provides either a physical Recovery Disk with their machines or
they may only have the Recovery image on a hidden partition on the hard
drive. If you want to return the machine to factory condition, call
Compaq and order their Recovery Disk. Since this is a laptop and will
have specialized hardware and laptop software, this is really your best
course of action.

I'm not sure what you mean by not having a boot disk and trying other
operating systems. If you have an operating system disk that will work
on the laptop, then put the CD in the drive, go into the BIOS and set
the machine to boot from the CD first, and install your operating
system. Get any drivers you need afterwards.

What I was meaning is that it will not allow me to run any operating
system disk. I have operatings system from 95 to xp. It will not read
any of them. It is set up to run cdrom first. The only thing I have
gotten it to even acknowledge it read was a norton disk. The new hard
drive in blank, but the bios shows it being there. The only hp disk I
have it the driver recovery cd, and it will not load it.

Then there must be something wrong with your cd drive. Call Compaq and
have them replace it.

I have tallked to several people about this, and it seems to everyone
as I have a blank hard, that it might not have any drivers for the cd
rom and it hasnt been formated and partioned. I was just wondering is
there an easy way to get this accoplished without buying a new cd rom.
Just a matter of tansfering some file. Just dont know exactly how to
get them and transfer the.
