I have just started receiving a new error message when I shut down Windows.
This message states: "An application failed to initialise because the
Windows station is closing down". I have no idea where this message came
from or what is causing it. I would be obliged if anybody could suggest how
I might track the source of this message and eliminate it.

Thanks,
Richard

Hi,

The message that you are describing is when windows has basically said no to
an application requesting to start, because you have already requested the
computer to shutdown.

Sounds like something is constantly trying to startup, and your only
notified due to you wishing to shutdown the computer. I suggest running the
whole virus/spyware scans with what ever software you use, and see if that
catches anything,

If you are fairly proficient at windows there is another trick you can try
to find out what the application/process may be.

1) Request a shutdown
2) when the message pops up don't click anything just press Ctrl+Alt+Del and
click file, select 'Run' and type the following into the run box

shutdown /a

That will abort the shutdown, then return to the task manager and see what
applications/processes are still running, if you have a general idea as to
what is what you may spot the problem

Otherwise try doing a system restore to an earlier time where you were not
having this problem,

Best of luck,

Xavier.
