New entries under network adapters

DJ Dave

This is on an XP Pro machine. In Device Manager under "Network Adapters" I
have always seen these two entries:
"1394 Net Adapter"
"VIA Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter"

Today I noticed two new entries. They are:
"WAN Miniport (IP) - Packet Scheduler Miniport"
"VIA Compatable Fast Ethernet Adapter - Packet Scheduler Miniport"

Both have the yellow exclamation mark alert on them. I can disable them and
it has no impact on my web access. But if I try to uninstall them, I get
the warning
"Failed to uninstall the device. The device may be required to boot up the
computer"

Can anyone tell me what these devices are? What they do? and why I need
them (or why I don't)? And if I don't need them, how do I remove them?

Thanks,
David

Short answer: if everything else works normally, no need to worry, leave it as is.
A longer answer: these entries belong to QOS Packet Scheduler, but it is
broken or not properly installed. To remove them, uninstall QOS in network
connection properties.
