For the past few days, I've been getting suspicious emails whose subject line is almost always "re:
[something," or "re: re: [something], or even "re: re: re: [something], and list AOL and MSN, among
others--even one from my university department listserv.

What is it, anybody?

Forgive me if I've missed this one discussed here already. I always seem to be the last one anybody
tells ;-(

TsIA.

I'm guessing it's a slant on MYdoom, I got some today "re: Hi" and "Re Your
software" both of which if I recall are subject lines of MYdoom worm....
minus the "Re:" of course
fortunately I run Mailwasher and the senders were auto blacklisted so it
stands out like the proverbial....
any unsuspecting user would automatically "wonder what I sent" to them...

Now a days Assume all e-mails with attachments are virus's. Make sure
your AV product is updated. I've got 2 updates today. If you don't have
an AV Scanner, get avast or avg.

Probably the Bagle.J one which is masquerading as your ISP's name.

I've been getting lots of bounce notices on email I didn't send, to email
addresses I've never heard of or used....with the "returned mail"
attachment. Apparently something is starting up again, after a few months
of relative calm.
