New DVD Drive won't Boot

I have a Toshiba 4060XCDT on which I have replaced the existing CD drive
with a DVD-CDR/W drive (also Toshiba). The replacement drive works fine,
except that the system will not boot from a bootable DVD or CD. Replacing
the original CD drive, restores bootability, and the replacement DVD-CDR/W
boots in the portable from which I took it.

Any one any thoughts as to why this might happen.

Have you checked the Bios settings to see if anything needs to be changed?
Some DVD drives insist on being master--is yours set up that way?

Have you checked the drive to see if it is capable, most are, but there may
be some that are not.

Are these bootable CD/DVDs you are using home made or commercial?
