Could be anything from that description.
Popup blocker. McAfee's security suite options. Etc.

You could try uninstalling the bloated McAfee Security Suite if that is what
is installed. See if that helps.
You could also try an alternative browser (like Firefox) to see if it is
something in Internet Explorer.

Which which here, and what Firewall is on now, McAfee does not do music, you
may have a bundle softwares came with dell would like to nick your money.
Try to give more info about the OS ver and example about the site and do you
have Windows media player installed or is it Real Player, if it is One of
these spooky sites do not send the full URL just the www.

I wonder if this is a consequence of the Eolas update. When nothing
starts to play, do you see something asking you to click, maybe if you
move the mouse over various controls?

Well,if I'm in your shose I will ditch the two and install Windows Media
Player 10 I don't know if WMP11 is still Beta or released to the public.
or try to uninstall QuickTime, some people/Clients I met have trouble with
it, because it would like to take over things on the System sometimes if it
left to it's own devices.
Finally be sure your cookies and firewall is allowing the Player to Run.

P.S Scan for Malware just in case there is some.
