New Contacts in Categories

When filing new contacts into categories, I can't get then into alphabetical
order within the category, they sit at the bottom of the list.
I never had this problem with Window 89 SE, only XP.
Can anyone help with a resolution please

Your operating system is not relevant here. Your Outlook version and a
clearer description of your problem would be.

Hi Russ, Thanks for your reply. My Outlook is in MS Office Basic Edition 2003
with a file name of Office 11 ~ Hope this helps.

I have my contacts listed in alphabetical 'Last Name' (surname) order in
Categories files.
Having moved the lists over from Win 98SE, all the information remained in
alpha order.
The problem is:~ Now, as I add a new contact to any of the categories, when
saved the contact drops into the bottom of the list out of alpha order so I
end up with a jumble of contacts at the bottom of the category(..ies) list.
If I change the listing out of categories and have one long list of
contacts, they all come into alpha order, revert to categories listings and
the new contacts end up in the jumble at the bottom of the listing again.
Beats me, hope you can help ~ JohnFr

I assume you are referring to the "By Category" view of your Contact Folder
then? That is the way Outlook 2003 behaves. To workaround the new way
Outlook 2003 sorts the "By Category" view:

Use the Detailed or Simple List view, show the columns you want to see
(field chooser), click the column (eg Last Name) you want to sort by, THEN
use the group by box to group by Category. That should have alphabetical as
well as the grouping.
