New computer - XP doesn't like the SATA drive!

I have a brand new system, dual core, 1 gig of memory, 320 Seagate SATA
HD - and when I try to install XP, when it reboots it gives me an error
about my hardware.
I also tried to install Win98/Winme for good measure and the same
problem.
The bios recognizes the drive, but WinXP doesn't like it - any ideas?

It is impossible to properly diagnose a problem from the statement
"it gives me an error about my hardware."
1.) At what exact point during the install process does the error occur?
2.) What is the EXACT error message?
If Win 98 won't even install, however, it is obvious that you have a serious
hardware problem.
