I just got a new computer with XP. I've been working
diligently to get all my files and programs on it, in
addition to downloading all the XP updates. This has
involved lots of rebooting. At one point in the reboot I
got the error that states, "Windows - system error a
duplicate name exists on the network." My name is the
only user. How do I get rid of this error? HELP!

It's not talking about your name, but the computer's. My
wife's orginal computer was NOX, and because I could
build it on another identical machine, I had to build it
as NOX2.

1. Start>Settings>Control Panel>System
2. Computer Name Tab
3. Click change
4. change name
5. Click OK
6. Click OK
7. Reboot
