New Computer questions

Im finally able to afford a new computer but havent been keeping up
with whats hot and whats not. Ive decided to get a P4 2.6 along with
a GeForce 4 ti video card but Im not sure about motherboard of brand
of video card, as Nvidia seems to not have thier own video card.

My questions are what chipset should I have on the mother board (I
want a 533 FB) and who makes a good GeForce video card?

Is there a reason for wanting a 533fsb? "What's hot" is the 800fsb. The P4
2.6c is priced well, and you can deferr the vid card by going with on board
video, if cost is the reason for your choices.
I chose the 2.6c for my new machine, and an Intel board. The combination is
*NICE* You can build for less than $600 if you use your current keyboard,
mouse and speakers. (even less if you scavenge your CD drives)

I just finished building my latest using the PIV 2.6C. I placed it onto
the BOXD865GBFL (Intel) board, which comes with dual memory channels.
(currently running 512 PC3200, DDR400 on channel I). With Western Digital
( WD800JB ) 80GB 7200RPM 8MB Buffer Special Edition Hard Drive, DVD-rom,
floppy, cheapo speakers and MS wireless keyboard and wireless optical mouse,
total system cost including shipping came to $649. Since everything is on
the board, I'm left with 7 open slots for upgrade, if needed. (board has
AGP8x) Board has SATA, internal USB connecters, more features than I can
recall; supports 400 & 533 FSB cpus, flexible support for single or dual
channel memory, and a really killer installation CD.

The only problem was the case power led had a 3 prong plug (middle vacant)
and board has 2 pin plug. Directron has an adapter for $2.

I had no problems with them, their prices beat many suppliers, and don't
forget to order the free polo shirt with the Intel motherboard.

Just make sure the chipset supports ECC, and then get ECC memory.
