New Anti-Virus/Malware/Adware can't install on my pc

Hi,

I have Windows XP Pro. I have McAfee Avert Stinger v260, Microsoft
AntiSpyware, Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool, SBC Yahoo! Anti-Spy,
SBC Yahoo! Online Protection, Spybot - Search & Destroy, SpywareBlaster,
Trend Micro Anti-Spyware installed in my pc. Recently, I attempted to
install 3 new anti-virus/spyware/adware programs to my pc. The first two
program caused my computer to freeze up when it had fully booted. I had a
very hard time trying to quickly uninstall them prior to my pc fully booting,
but I was able to do it. Today, I went to the Microsoft Site at
http://safety.live.com/site/en-US/default.htm and attempted to perform a Tune
Up and a Full Service Scan. I allowed pop-ups and Active-X but the programs
couldn't completely download. I then turned off my firewall and all of the
anti-virus/malware/adware programs in my pc in case they were stopping the
programs from downloading, but the Tune Up and the Full Service Scan programs
still could not completely download.

How do I find out what is stopping me from downloading and installing new
anti-virus/spyware/malware programs and causing my pc to freeze if they do
download and install?

You should slim down the number of apps..

I agree with what Shenan stated as well as...

Thank you Shenan and David for replying.

Please bear with me as my question is out of uncertainty. Two of the
programs work in the background (Yahoo! On-Line Protection and Spyware
Blaster), while the others work only when I start them. Are you saying that
I have too many anti-virus/spyware/malware programs installed in my pc and
that I need to eliminate some of them in order to download and install new
ones? Are they conflicting even though I turn off all the
anti-virus/spyware/malware programs that I have installed when attempting to
download a new one?

Regards,
Denise

Two anti malware scanners performin "On Access" scanning can interfere with each other. I
can't speak for the actions of some of those specialty scanners and what they do but this is
a strong possibility -- software conflict.

As with anti virus software, only ONE anti malware scanner should be running "On Access" in
the background. All others should be "On Demand".

It is MORE important to practice Safe Hex to protect you from malware then it is to run a
myriad of applications.

If you practice Safe Hex then you mitigate the majority of threats and the software needed
would be minimized.
