before i had only one account on my windows xp and when i
created a new one. my old account is no longer
accessible through the welcome screen, but all the files
are still there if i search for them. if anyone could
help me that'd be great. thanks!

Your old account must be the administrator a/c and the new one you created
must have administrative privileges. This is a known feature/bug of Windows
XP. It hides the original Administrator a/c on the welcome screen if you
have another administrative account. There are a couple of ways to solve
this:

1) Change your system settings so that you do not see the welcome screen and
see the old fashioned login screen as in Win 2000 and so you can login with
any user defined on the system.
2) You can boot into safe mode and then it will show you all accounts
defined on the system.
3) Change the privileges of your new account to be non-administrative.
