i just bought a new 200GB hardrive, along with a whole bunch of other new
components and was building a computer. I had everything put together and put
in the XP Pro disk to install windows and it only recognized the hardrive as
130GB. Any ideas?

It's due to the Windows 137GB Capacity Barrier. I suggest you install a tool
such as Seagate's DiscWizard (it's free, you can download from
www.seagate.com). When you first run DiscWizard, it will prompt and fix the
problem for you. You can use DiscWizard even for non-Seagate drives

"How to enable 48-bit Logical Block Addressing support for ATAPI disk drives
in Windows XP"

In short, you need XP SP1 or later, and your mainboard's BIOS also must
include LBA48 support. (There may be a BIOS update available for your
system, if your current BIOS doesn't support LBA48.) If that fails, you
could consider adding a third-party IDE controller card (for example,
www.promise.com) that supports large drives. I have seen such cards bundled
in retail packages for some of the large IDE drives sold in the past few
years.

There is probably a work-around using drive overlay software from the
drive's manufacturer, but I prefer to avoid such hacks.

Address scarmbled. Replace nkbob with bobkn.

Hi,

Update the bios from the mobo's web site...
Make sure you install the mobo's INF file from the setup
disk that came with the board.

Hi,

Yes, in order to see the full drive, your system BIOS must support 48-bit
LBA and WindowsXP must already have SP1 or SP2 installed. If you are
installing from a CD, it must be slipstreamed with one of the service packs.

You need two things to support a drive over 137GB:
1. A motherboard with a BIOS and controller that supports 48-bit
LBA (or alternatively, an add-in controller card that does).

2. At least SP1 of Windows XP.
