I am having an issue with Never winter nights Platinum Edition on Windows XP SP2.

When I load the game nwloader shows the splash screen (the eye) and then....NOTHING.

nwmain.exe stays in my processes list but does absolutely nothing. It will run in safe-mode which makes it look like a service conflict some where any ideas?

try updating your graphics card drivers and check that DirectX is working properly

There is no error it just doesn't load past the splash screen at the beginning it just 'stops' the process stays active but does nothing.

There is no error message.

I discovered the error through Msconfig.

I disabled services one-by-one till I found what was causing the conflict

It turned out to be the Windows Audio service.

I am having the same issue and found this thread when searching for answers.

I have no idea what is causing mine to behave this way. It was working the other morning and the only thing I had changed was installing another game. I have COMPLETELY uninstalled the other game, but NWN still is not running.

All of the Processes that are running are...

msmsgs
realplay
svchost
alg
iPodService
CCEVTMGR
CCSETMGR
FxSvr2
LVCOMSX
svchost
SAVSCAN
realsched
PRISMXL
rundll32
nvsvc32
symwsc
shwiconEM
lsass
services
winlogon
csrss
NAVAPSVC
CCAPP
smss
sstray
SOUNDMAN
spoolsv
System
System Idle Process

I don't know if that will really help at all. I am running WinXP home.

Thanks for any help.

PS. The game also does not seem to engage the DVD when trying to load. (Normally doesn't it load the videos off the DVD?)
