I do not have or require a network as I just use the one computer. However I
am getting "Local Area Network - a network cable is unplugged" and I'm having
major problems getting connected to the internet using a broadband DSL Modem.
The USB is supplying power to the modem but there appears to be no data
stream to modem. Have connacted my provider with no satisfaction. Can anyone
suggest a solution?

Since your DSL modem connects to the computer using USB, you don't
need to use the Local Area Network connection. Right-click the Local
Area Network connection and click Disable.

I'm sorry, but without knowing the details of your DSL service and
modem, I can't suggest what's wrong with it. Your DSL provider should
be able to help.
