Dear god , please someone help me , i have just installed a "belkin" router
, it is all working properly , and i am now trying to connect my laptop to
my main computer which has the router connected to it (setting up the
network) - i apparently have done this successfully . The laptop is picking
up the signal from the router but i cannot get a connection between the 2
computers , i also try to connect to the internet but all i get is "no
internet connection available" - please , please , someone help !!!

Hi

As you mention 'picking up a signal', is this a wireless router? Have you
powered off your cable modem for a while so that it picks up the new MAC
address of the router?

Have a look at the NTL & Routers forums on www.cm-forums.co.uk for some
help.
