Having no luck having my W2K Advanced server communicating to my new
XP Pro. The server has been downgraded to a Workgroup within my home
network.

XP 192.168.0.3 with 255.255.255.0 running DHCP with my broadband
Have a LMhosts file pointing to the W2K box, 192.168.0.2

Have a netgear firewall/gateway 192.168.0.1

Running Netbios TCP/IP with file sharing on or off.

Not able to get a Ping from the W2k to the XP?? XP to W2k works?

Unable to utilize any of the Workgroup functionality.

Keep getting "The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently
available"

I searched the forums and responses to this error but have had no luck
gettting these two computers to communicate.

Welcoming ideas!!

Thanks!

If you can only ping in one direction, your subnet masks might not concur.
XP uses the host file or DNS to find W2K efficiently. Check your XP firewall
configuration.
