Networking XP laptop on office domain to home XP workgroup

I have a few questions about the following help posted several times on this
newsgroup:

this may help. quoted form <http://www.ChicagoTech.net> Q: How can I share
files between workgroup computer and domain/workgroup computer? I have a
home wireless network and share files and a printer between two computers. I
also use Win 2000/XP laptop at work with domain network. How can I share
files between these computers at home? A: Deepening on your network setup,
you may
1) Logon local laptop using the same logon id and password on both machine.

Does local laptop refer to the machine that is on the workgroup network?
Should I change the workgroup computer to have the same login id and
password as the domain machine?

2) change workgroup name to match win2000 domain and the laptop needs to
install at home first and then join the domain .
When you say that the laptop needs to install at home first - what do you
mean?

3) without changing the workgroup name and logon ID, just enable guest
account in win 2000/XP.
Will this change my cache, thereby not letting me even log into WinXP?

4) If you are running XP, enable Simple File Sharing.

5) logon domain user on the domain laptop (even the workgroup is different),
use command net use \\workgroupcomputer /user:administrator, (here
administrator is workgroup computer local administrator), the enter
workgroup computer administrator password. You should be able to access the
workgroup resources.

Thanks for helping me with these questions.

All I would suggest is that you do NOT modify your laptop's domain
membership or you will 'lock yourself out of your car' until you can bring
the laptop back to work & grovel in front of your IT folks.

Just connect your laptop to your home network, log into the domain account
with cached credentials on the laptop, and then make sure you can ping your
home PC(s) - first by IP, then by name (this may take about 15 minutes
unless you have a hosts file with the home PC name & IP, and the home PC
uses a static IP).

Then map a drive to a share on your home PC....I usually do this in a
command prompt:

net use x: \\computer\share /user:computer\username

You should be prompted for a password - enter the appropriate one.

Boom, you have a drive mapping. You can now also connect to/use a printer on
that workstation.

It's harder to set up a "domain" laptop so other workstations in a workgroup
can access resources on it - so I usually do this as a one-way thing, which
is generally enough.
