Networking XP and ME

Is there a problem with networking between an XP and an
ME computer? I just purchased a new computer with XP and
need to copy some large files over from my old ME
computer. I have the two network cards connected via a
network cable and my XP system tells me that the cable is
not connected. I can connect to the internet with each
computer independently so I now the cable and cards are
good.

Anybody have any ideas?

Are you connecting ME and XP computers with a cross-over cable? You use a
straight-thru cable to connect a computer to a hub / switch / router, but
computer to computer requires a cross-over cable.
