Networking with a Workgroup and Macintosh

I have a Windows computer, and I am trying to share my folders with my
roommate who has a mac...I am unable to find the permissions tab (The screen
I find when I click on properties (on the C drive) is not the one that gives
the option to edit permissions)...but the main problem is that he can access
my computer without a password...so we were trying to get him connected to
the Workgroup where I think it is easier to make it password protected...but
I can't seem to figure out how to get him to come up on my network and me on
his (the same workgroup), we can both see the workgroup file but nothing is
in his, and only my computer is in mine...Can anyone help??????

Thanks

In order for the Mac to be able to share files with a Windows machine,
the Mac must be running Samba (assuming this is a fairly new Mac
running some version of OSX). Samba is quite easy to set up on the Mac.

What exactly are you trying to "password protect"? If you have an XP
Home machine, you will not see the security tab unless you are in Safe
Mode and the file system is formatted NTFS. If you are just trying to
share files, then run the Samba configuration on the Mac and enter the
Workgroup name there. Then share out whatever resources you want on
either machine.
