I am running to computers with XP Home, and I want to
share an ADSL connection. My ADSL modem uses a USB cable.
How do I do this without having to use a router of some
sort. Both of my PC's have an eathernet card, and I
purchased the cat 5. I just cannoot seem to make it work
with, or w/o a router. This is probably an easy one, but
I am pretty new at this.

Thanx
Anth

Hello
Hook the 2 puters together with the cat 5 cable.
Open your network connections in Control Panel, right click on Local Area
Connection left click Properties, now you will need to install Client For MS
Networks, File and Print Sharing for MS Networks, Internet Protocol[TCP/IP],
I also have NWLink NetBIOS, NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBios Comp. Trans. Pro.
installed and that allows me to run my firewalls on all puters and still
ping my network. Then when that is finished click apply-OK, now on the left
side of the network connection page you will see create a home network link
click on it and it will walk you through the steps, be sure to name your
workgroup the same on both puters and name each computer different, and when
you get to the place to create a floppy then do so(you will need a blank
floppy disk) and you can run it on the other machines.

It's not necessary to run the wizard or use any other protocol other than
TCP/IP.

Simply connect the two PCs with a crossover CAT5 cable. On the network
properties of the DSL connection, click on the advanced tab and share the
connection.

You need to use a special crossover cable if you are
connecting the 2 pcs directly.

A regular cat5 cable won't work.

Set up Internet Connection Sharing as shown here:

You must use a router of some sort, and their are only two sorts:
hardware, and software. For a brief tutorial, see:
