Hey people i was wondering if you could help me i was jus wondering if i
could connect 3 Computers to a hub and to provide the dsl conection to all
computers can i hook the dsl modem to the hub and all the comps will get the
internet or not????

I thank you for any help you can give.

you will need a router, not a hub, in order to get DHCP to supply your 3
computers with correct IPs.

Get a Router and connect your modem to it via the Internet port on the
router, then connect your 3 computers NICs to the ethernet ports on the
router and follow the manufacturers instructions on setting up the router
and boom, you have a 3 computer network with each sharing the internet
connection.

Of course its not always that easy and certain systems might need a tweek
here and there, but if you need further help, just ask. Im sure there are
plenty here that are willing to help.

Robert....

Josh,

To provide access to 3 computers you need (choice of 1):
1) Replace the hub with a NAT router.
2) Pay your ISP for 3 addresses.
3) Add a second network card to one computer; connect the DSL modem directly to
one network card; connect the hub with the other 2 computers to the second
network card; run ICS on that computer to provide service to the other 2
computers.

With DSL and a modem with Ethernet, my choice would be #1, in a heartbeat. The
answer to what I think you were asking, though, is "No, not without paying for 3
ip addresses", you can't hook 3 computers to a hub to the DSL modem, and get
service to all 3.

Josh,

For brand recommendations, try some research. Each of these brands have their
devotees:
Buffalo
D-Link
Linksys
Netgear
SMC

I personally recommend Linksys, because the BEFSX41 has the most complete
real-time intrusion log of all of the above, and I like to know what the bad
guys are trying.

There are discussion forums for each brand at http://www.dslreports.com/forums:

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/dlink
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/linksys

See what features you need, and what brands and models fit those needs the best.
In router selection, one size does NOT fit all.
