Networking services will not start

Have a Compaq Presario running XP Pro with a Compaq provided NIC (which is working fine).
If I type ipconfig at a cmd prompt I get: "Command not supported. Unable to query routing information.
If I try to ping another PC I get "Unable to contact IP driver, error code 2
I've uninstalled the networking services (thru Add/Remove - Windows components) and reinstalled. When I did I got this error: "MSMQ Service cannot be started - Error code 0x42c" (I've searched my TechNet CDs AND the KB for this but nothing). When I check the various services (e.g., DHCP Client, TCP/IP, etc.) they are set to automatic but not started. When I try to start one of them I get an "Error 1068 - The dependency service or group failed to start" (doesn't tell you WHAT service or group it is). If I check the system configuration utility - ALL services are checked to start
I've even put a new NIC in the machine (Linksys) thinking that was it - still the same results.
I've run the repair function from the XP Pro CD - that didn't solve it. I've installed SP1 - that didn't help
If anyone has any clue as to what's wrong here I sure would appreciate your advice. I can be reached via e-mail at (e-mail address removed) - or simply reply to this post
Thanks.

Hi Dennis

I was getting "MSMQ Service
cannot be started - Error code 0x42c", when I tried to install MSMQ,
and it also mentioned dependencies. I compared the "dependancies
(under services) on an "MSMQ" functioning system and found the onl
discrepancy was (on the functioning one) "NT LM Security Suppor
Provider" was set to Running and Manual. Where as on the no
functioning one "NT LM Security Support Provider" was set to disabled.
I set the non funnctioning one to manual and was able to install MSMQ.

I hope this helps you as well (nothing else out there is there!)

Cheers

Andy
