I HAVE 2 DELL COMPUTERS RUNNING WINXP-PRO.
ORDERED THE NEW ONE WITH A " NETGEAR ROUTER "AND PURCHASED A NETGEAR PCI
CARD FOR THE OTHER. SPENT 40 Hrs + WITH DELL TRYING TO GET THEM NETWORKED.
FINALLY ESTABLISHED, THAT I CANNOT HAVE A WIRELESS NETWORK. CONNECTED A
CABLE, AND THE NETWORK WORKS FINE.

IF I ENTER INFORMATION FROM WORD IN MY NEW COMPUTER, AND SAVE IT TO
" MY DOCUMENTS ", I CANNOT SEE IT IT IN THE OTHER COMPUTER., IN " MY
DOCUMENTS ". I KNOW THAT IT IS PROBABLY A SIMPLE PROCEDURE TO REMEDY THIS,
BUT DELL TECH SUPPORT, DOES NOT SUPPORT FILE SHARING, AND THEY HAVE LEFT ME
HANGING.

BOTH COMPUTERS PING FINE.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME?

IN MY PROFILE, I MAY HAVE EXAGGERATED ON MY SKILL LEVEL @ LEVEL 6, SO BE
GENTLE, IT'S MY FIRST TIME. SIMPLE SOLUTIONS FOR A SIMPLE MIND!!!!

Please don't post in all caps - it is considered shouting, rude, and
makes your post hard to read.

I'm assuming both computers are XP Home. Put the documents you want to
share in the Shared Documents folder instead of My Documents. Make sure
you've enabled File & Printer Sharing in the Windows Firewall applet in
Control Panel.

Sorry, I am not a touch typist and use ALL CAPS in my business [ easier to
read ].

I was trying to be neither rude nor shouting.

Thanx for the info, and I will try this.

Malke,
You helped me a lot. i already got as far as shared files, etc. but
could still not see the files on each computer as they were saved.

Your impetus, however, reminded me of what i was trying to share, and
where I was trying to share it.

It was a simple step, setting file locations in word to my network
places, my documents, etc etc.

My office manager's, [ my wife ] job will be much easier. She said you
just made # 1 on her Christmas list.

Your help was a true blessing. Thanx again!!!

Grizzer,

There are probably a few reasons why you can't see shared files from one
computer to another. Since you're new at this, let's try some simple
diagnostics. Be patient with me too, cause this may take a few posts.

Please start by providing ipconfig information for each computer.
Start - Run - "cmd". Type "ipconfig /all >c:\ipconfig.txt" into the command
window - Open c:\ipconfig.txt in Notepad, make sure that Format - Word Wrap is
NOT checked!, copy and paste entire contents into your next post.

BTW, posting your email address openly will get you more unwanted email, than
wanted email. Learn to munge your email address properly, to keep yourself a
bit safer when posting to open forums. Protect yourself and the rest of the
internet - read this article.

So it's all working now? You've made my day. Thanks for letting me know.
