Hi all,

I have a 2000 pro laptop connected to a D-Link 524 wireless router via
RJ45. It is installed with Kaspersky antivirus ver 7.0 and no
firewall. I can connect to internet. I have another laptop installed
with Vista Home Basics & connects to the router via wireless. It can
connect to internet too. From the router DHCP, I can see both PCs &
their allocated IP address.

From my 2000 pc, when I go to network places, I can't see my Vista pc
and vice versa.

The setting are as follows:

2000 pro
Workgoup: WORKGROUP
File & printer sharing: ON

Vista Basic
Workgroup: WORKGROUP
Network: Private
Network Discovery: ON
File & printer sharing: ON
Public Password: OFF

Pls give me your valuable advice as this is really giving me a big
headache.

One more thing to add on. When I go to Network Place & click on the
"Computers around me", it shows a pop-up windows stating that no
computers found. If I view entire network & click on workgroup, it
shows another error pop-up windows. This means unlike my vista pc
which at least shows me the router & myself in network, 2000 pro can't
show anything at all.

Pls advise.

Thanks & best regards,
starfish

Hi
Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings,
http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html
As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is
allowed to be shared.
