I have 3 computers all XP
LT1, LT2, and DT
using Windows Explorer,
I can access LT1 from LT2 or vice versa
I can access LT2 from DT and vice versa
When I try to access DT from LT1 it pops up a password window for User
name = "computername\Guest".
When I try to access LT1 from DT it locks up WE, when I force WE to
close it removes everything on DT desktop(icons, access to taskbar
(set to popup)) except open windows of other programs. I have to
reboot to get operation back.

It used to work and something changed and I don't know where to look.

any pointers?????????

Does the Guest account on DT have a password set. Is it possible when
talking to LT1 some password was cache to be remembered for any future
connections? Can you break and re-establish all connections?

To avoid having to enter a password when accessing shares on another PC,
make sure that your logon account/password does also exist on each of the
other machines. Do not log on as "guest".

Your comment assumes XP Pro with Simple File Sharing disabled. XP Home
or XP Pro w/ Simple File Sharing enabled require network connections
through Guest Account.

Sometimes you can recover at this point by:
Ctrl-Alt-Del, then click on "Task Manager"
then File -> New Task -> Open: Explorer -> OK.

there is no Guest password set on the DT. LT2 logs onto DT the same
way-I think-

turning off/on all computers has not effect on connection.

There is no logon required on any machine - the user is the same on
all machines. the machine names are different the workgroup is the
same on all machines

"No logon required" means that the logon process is automated. It does not
mean that you run your sessions under the same account name. Do this on each
machine to find out the actual user names:
- Click Start / Run / cmd {OK}
- Type this command:
echo %UserName%{Enter}
What are the three user names?
- Type this command:
net user "%UserName%"{Enter}
When was the the password last changed?

all three computers are (supposedly) the same in this regard.
simple file sharing is enabled. I have never done anything with a
Guest account.

A connects to B
B connects to C
common logic says, therefore A and C should connect
but A and C don't talk.

they are all the same - other than the date and times.
there are no passwords (blank)
one user per machine - other than admin

Can't remember but I think I tried that and the task manager would not
come up.
