Networking gone in Windows XP

I was trying to install remote access software from work, found that it
crashed my system, so did a system restore to before the install. Now I find
that I no longer have any network or Internet access. The Network
Connections folder is empty. The network card shows up and appears to be
working in Device Manager. I ran the wizard to create a new connection.
After it is done, there is still no connection. I reinstalled Windows XP Pro
(as an upgrade), and it made no difference. I reinstalled the network card
driver and it made no difference. I am running out of things to try. Does
anyone know how to get my network restarted?

Thanks,
Jeff Stevens
