I have a network with 5 units on it 4 of them are running 98 se and the other
is XP pro, on 98 I've setup passwords for the shared files so only people can
have access with passwords, on XP pro I can't find this function ie read only
or full access.
Can anybody help?

Hi, Andy -

Windows XP Professional doesn't give you the option of
password protecting files - instead of prompting for a
password it checks the user's credentials before deciding
to grant access. If simple file sharing is enabled it
needs to be turned off - you'll find it in Control Panel -
-> Folder Options.

After that, you'll need to create user accounts on the XP
machine that match the username and password the folks on
the Win98 machines are using - then you can restrict
access by username rather than by assigning a password to
the shared resource.

Hope this helps -
