Networking failed with router

I am trying to get my computer to connect to cable internet
via a dlink router and am having a problem. I have two
computers, both running windows xp. One of them seems to
be able to comunicate with the router fine, the other just
does not seem to be able to. The one that fails is a
couple years newer then the one that works. Below is a
summery of what dlink tech support went trough with me:

1.Went to start>run>cmd.
2.Entered ipconfig.(Got 192.168.0.101 IP)
3.Went to the LAN properties.
4.Changed to obtain an IP address automatically and applied.
5.Entered ipconfig.(Got 0.0.0.0 IP)
6.Entered ipconfig/renew (Failed to renew IP address)
7.Went to the LAN properties.
8.Assigned a Static IP of 192.168.0.15 and sub of
255.255.255.0 and
gateway of 192.168.01 and dns of 4.2.2.2, 4.2.2.3 and applied.
9.Entered ping 192.168.0.1 (Got Request timed out)
10.Restarted the computer.
11.Went to start>run>cmd.
12.Entered ping 192.168.0.1 (Got timed out)
13.Advised the customer to contact Microsoft for further
troubleshooting.

Any help would be great,
Thanks,
Jacob

Jacob,
I agree with Steve. Check the NIC first to make sure it is working right.
Check the cable to the router. Can you swap cables with the one that is
working? Make sure there is no firewall running on the machine that doesn't
work.
