I would like to know the easiest way to netwrok two computer with xp pro
which have ethernet cards. and let them share a dialup internet connection

one is a desktop pc and the other a laptop

Best way IMO, is to purchase a router. Since both machines already
have NICs, you can easily connect both your desktop and laptop to the
router. That will then allow both machines to connect to the internet
through the router. You can purchase a router at any good computer

Since you have dialup, a router will not be the best choice.

You can buy a simple "crossover cable" and connect the machines directly
to each other. The computers should be able to "see" each other.
