Please can you help.
I have two pc's, one running xp pro, the other xp home. They are joined to
the internet via a 4-port adsl modem/switch. They have static ip addresses
(192.168.1.2 and 3 respectively), with the router being 192.168.1.1. Neither
of them has the firewall installed and all settings that would deny access to
them have been temperarily removed. I can ping both the router and the 'home'
pc from the 'pro' pc, but can only see the router from the 'home' pc. The pcs
are on the same workgroup name and even if joined directly to each other have
the same problem....can someone help please as this simple problem is driving
me mad...Thanks in advance.

Assuming you know how to share a part of ur hard drive, share it (take
notice of the share name) and then go to the other computer and type in My
Computer: \\<other computer's name>\sharename - replacing other computers
name with the computer's name (r-click My comp, go to computer name) and
replace sharename with the sharename of the file on the other computer

By the way, My Network Places isn't always a true representation of your
network. On my Workgroup i have this XP Home and a Win98 and i can't see
either computer, despite the fact that both internet and file sharing work

If this doesn't work post a reply and i'll try think of something else

Jayso,

Your problem is not unique. I can't find any trace of your having asked for
help though. Read this if you like:

Danster,

Are you sure there's no personal firewall you may have overlooked?
Misconfigured / overlooked firewalls:
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/05/your-personal-firewall-can-either-help.html>
Check each computer for registry setting restrictanonymous too:
<http://nitecruzr.blogspot.com/2005/07/restrictanonymous-and-your-server.html>

If no help yet, provide "browstat status" and "ipconfig /all" from each
computer, and we'll diagnose the problem. Read this article, and linked
articles, and follow instructions precisely:

Please let us know if any of these suggestions are of any help. What you learn
may help others in the future, and that's the purpose of these forums.
