Network XP to 98

I recently changed my main computer to a Dell Server with onboard network
connectionand xp pro. I am connecting peer to peer with an older computer
that has win98 and has successfully connected with xp home before. Now the 98
computer will not recognize the xp computer and the xp computer tells me that
the cable is disconnected. Since it's a peer to peer and I have checked it
several times, I know that there is a physical connection. Also tried a brand
new eithernet card and got the same message. HELP, I'm at wits end here, and
just can't figure it out. The wizard doesnt help, maybe someone out there
can. Thanks for your help.

Have you tried any other computers with the new server? Have you run
diagnostics on the network card on the server? If you just got this server, it
sounds to me like a call to Dell would be a good place to start.

Mr Critter

I just needed some clarification. You said you are running
peer-to-peer, but are you running computer to computer (crossover) or
through a hub/switch? Also, are both machines able to ping their local
interface? Only 4 pins are necessary to give either machine the
indication that it is connected (pins 1,2,3, and 6). Please advise...

Dear Critter:

Running computer to computer (crossover). I have a hub, if thats better,
just dont have it installed. Dont know about ping. How do you test that?
