The old Win 98 machine is connected to the new XP portable by direct
parallel connection. Both machines say connected and the little icon is on.
XP is guest, 98 is host. I can't find 98 on Windows explorer, shared files,
network or anywhere else. Where is it?

Thanks,

Henry

forget the direct connect method

if you just want to share files buy a cat5 crossover
cable and connect to the two computers via the network
cards.

use network setup wizard on xp and setup 98 manually with
same workgroup and enable file and print sharing
turn off xp firewall and configure any third party
firewalls to allow the file sharing.and turn on xp guest
account.

I don't want to buy anything. This is a one time transfer from a dying
machine. Why can't I transfer with this parallel connection which both
computers recognize?
