I would like to network my two computers, a new Win XP and an older Win ME,
so I can copy files from the ME to the XP. Can this be accomplished with a
crossover cable for PC to PC connection, using the Ethernet port? How? What
do I do? Or do I have to use the internet somehow (most networking advice
seems to assume everyone wants to do that)? Please help. I am no computer
guru. Thank you!

Yes, of course you can network the two computers directly together with
a crossover cable. The Internet doesn't have to be involved. Here are
some sites to help:

I learned that I had to turn off the firewalls, and I also learned that I
could set up a new password. Thanks.
