Network shares and printing

Hi all,

I have installed a new pc for a user-

Dell OPtiplex 520, XP Pro and connects to SBS 2003 Server Standard. Now
sometimes when she try's to print or access either network share or network
printer the system prompts for a password. When entering the correct
credentials the box repeatedly appears with no error or warning. The only
indication is when viewing the printer in the control panel it displays as
unable to connect. If you log off and then back in all is fine. why does the
connection be lost or even if it is that.

Her old pc was a compaq EXD, windows 2000 and connected to the same SBS 2003
server!

Can somebody shed a little light on the above.

Hi,

The user is probably not authenticated by the server. That is why she has to
enter the proper username and password. Try testing the issue by mapping a
shared drive and entering proper username and password.

1.. Open My Computer
2.. Click Tools and Map network drive
3.. Enter a UNC path of the share
4.. Click on Different user name
5.. Enter her username and password (don't forget the domain name when
typing the username)
After following the steps above, restart the computer, log on again and try
opening some other share (not the mapped one)! Does this happen even if you
logon to the computer using your domain username (some other user)?

Hi Aaron,

As I sad in the first post, client cannot contact the DC. Try following this
steps:

1. Start / Run, type cmd

2. Type netsh int ip reset reset.log

3. Type netsh winsock reset

4. Restart the client computer

5. Click Start, click Control Panel, click Network and Internet Connections,
and then click Network Connections.

6. Right-click Local Area Connection, and then click Properties.

7. Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), and then click Properties.

8. Select the Use the following DNS server addresses option button if it is
not already selected.

9. Type the correct DNS address in the Preferred DNS server box.

10. Click OK.

11. Click Start / Run, type cmd

12. Run the following commands:

-ipconfig /release

-ipconfig /renew

-ipconfig / flushdns

-ipconfig /registerdns

I fellowed one of the links that disables Auto enfollment using GPedit.msc.
Now the only errors are;

Will I try disconnecting from the domain and then rejoin? What is the
problem with auto enrollment?

Hi Aaron,

Did you reset the winsock and set preferred DNS suffix on the TCP/IP
protocol? Sure you can try removing the computer from the domain and the
joining it back in. I would also suggest that you try renaming the user
profile in C:\Document and Settings folder and the join it to the domain,
log on with the problematic user, it will create a new user profile (because
other accounts work fine, maybe a corrupted profile). The just copy the old
user profile to the new one.

Hi Anton,

I have depolyed 6 xp installations all resulting in the same errors. Would
it be a problem with Active Directory! Oh sorry I took so long to reply.
