Hi All

I have set up a network at home, including a network printer ( a canon
multi-purpose device MF5650). I cannot, however, set up the remote scanner.

Very few scanners can be used over a network and they usually start at
around $1500USD and go up from there. Your Canon is just a regular USB
(not network) all-in-one that is connected to one of your computers.
You can share the printer and print to it from other computers on the
network (as long as the computer to which the printer is locally
connected is on) but you can't scan to it remotely.

Sharing a scanner is only possible if the scanner manufacturer or a
third party supplies software to do it. Windows doesn't have that
capability built in. Here's one possible source:

Scanner sharing isn't as convenient as printer sharing. Unlike a
printer, you have to be physically present at a scanner to operate it.

Here are some possible solutions:

1. Scan images into a shared folder on the computer that connects to
the scanner and then access the images from the other computer(s).

2. Use remote control software, such as Remote Desktop or RealVNC, to
operate the computer that connects to the scanner from another
computer on the network.
