Network problems

I have my VISTA computer connected to wireless router. When I reboot my
computer it never reconnects to the router, unless I power off the router
(then the connection is good). I am using a network cable between my
computer and the router. Why do I need to power off my router every time I
reboot my computer. This is especially a pain when it automatically reboots
after a software update. Any ideas?

Just to clarify: The vista computer is connected to the wireless router via
a cable?
I assume you have other computers in the house that need to connect
wirelessly to the router, correct?

Also, when you say power off the router, do you mean turn it off and then
turn it back on?
Or do you leave the router turned off and then your connection is good?
Sorry to be so literal, but I'm just trying to clarify what you're saying.

does the router assign IP addresses automatically?
in router setup, is DHCP enabled, and are there enough addresses allocated
for the number of computers on your network?
have you tried to 'repair' the network connection in Vista before power
cycling the router?

I had that problem with a USRobotics (older) router. I updated firmware and
it worked with my new vista laptop. THEN I installed Norton 360, and started
getting the Local Only problem. I tried the 928233 recommendations and it
did not help. the only thing that worked was to completely uninstall Norton.
Is there a security setting that needs to be adjusted so that I can be
secure while using Vista wirelessly?

Also, I saw a recommendation to enable ECN using "netsh interface tcp set
global ecncapability=enabled". Would you recommend this? Is there any risk?

thanks...
