Network problems

Enrico Gobbo

Good afternoon, i have two problems.

1. i'm not able to access the network neighbourhood from one of our pcs.
When i click the network neighbourhood icon nothing appear, and if i take a
look on the task manager i see that network neighbourhood not responding.
If i connect to my server via the UNC name from the explorer (eg. \\SRV01) i
reach the server and i'm able to work. We have 2 windows 2000 Server and 20
pcs on the network (1 Win2K and 19 WinXp SP2).

2. On my server i've thousand of this errors on the event log (application
log)

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: 06/10/05
Time: 10:28:27
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: SRV01
Description:
Windows cannot access the registry information at
\\SYSTEM.it\sysvol\SYSTEM.it\Policies\{31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9}\Machine\registry.pol
with (53).

What does it mean???

I hope that someone could help me, and i apologize for my horrible english
(i'm italian...)

Best regards,
Enrico

my server isn't a Small Business Server, and i've file and printer sharing
enabled.
About the second suggest: how can i check if my ip is correct in my dns?

seth

on your dns server, look for the A record for that server and see if it has
the correct address

i'm sorry but i don't know very well a DNS server, and i don't know where i
have to look for. Where i find this "A record"?

on your domain controller, in administrative tools you will see DNS
in there on the left side, expand your server, then expand forward lookup
zones, then the domain name
when you click on the domain name on the left, it will display all your
records on the right
look for the server name in the list; in the type column it will say host(a)
and in the data column it will show the ip. make sure that ip is correct

OK, i found it and, as you suggested me, the server's ip was wrong.
There is another thing to say... My domain is trusted with another one, and
in the NIC of my server there is 2 IP.
In the DNS list i found 2 records for my server and the IP on each record
was correct. Now i've deleted the record with the second ip and
i've clear all message on the event log, and now i'll check if the error
occurred again.

Thank you very much for help me and for the patience. If my error occur
again i'll open another thread.
Thanks again, Enrico
