network problems- xp home with xp pro?

Trying to set up my home network and getting nowhere. Laptop 1(homebase) is
running xp home and is hard wired into a linksys router. Laptop 2(andy) is
running xp pro and is accessing the router via a wireless connection. Both
machines have no problem accessing the internet. Hombase can see Andy, but
Andy cannot see Homebase. Windows firewall is turned off on both machines, as
is the Norton firewall. I have limited computer skills, and I do believe I
have tried everything that I can think of. The names of the network are the
same (MSHOME) on both machines. I can ping from one to the other with IP
addresses but not computer names. Homebase can see Andy, but no network path
is found. Andy recieves this message: "MSHOME is not accessible. You might
not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the network admins
etc... The list of servers for this network is not currently available."
Homebase recieves a similar message , with "the network path was not found."
at the end of the message. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The Norton firewall is well known for not accepting defeat easily, you have to
either un install it, carefully, following all procedures provided by Symantec,
or properly configure it.

My limited computer skills are shining through. Perhaps you may answer a
few related questions. By enabling a firewall (?) on my linksys router, am I
adequately protecting my machines from worms etc? I started to get a sinking
feeling as I disabled my "onboard" firewalls.
It is quite likely that I did not fully remove them as all I did was click a
"turn off firewall" prompt in norton, and follwed your instructions from a
previous post to turn off windows firewall.

All I wanted was to be able to print from my laptop without having to walk
up the stairs. 8 hours later and I am ready to call in the pros... Is this
an issue that someone with little skill or knowledge can address? I will
check the firewalls again and the registry settings, but I seem to recall reg
editing as being a bit daunting...

If your computers are connected to a NAT router, that is not the same as a
firewall, and a NAT router only gives you protection against incoming threats.
But when you need to work on your computer, and are careful to not go surfing
the web to www.hackerzrus.com, you'll be safe. Please read my Layered Security

Registry editing is easier than you'd think from reading the MS articles.

If you un install Norton properly, and enable WF, and enable the FPS exception
you should be OK, and safe. Then work on Windows Networking and File Sharing.
Once you get file sharing working, you can re install and configure Norton,
disable WF, and you should be set.
