Network Printer Sharing

B

Bill

I am currently ona network with my laptop & a desktop.
Both are running WinXP. They are connected with Netgear
router and wireless card.

I can print OK from the desktop, but get errors from the
laptop. No particular error msgs, just "error-printing"
in the hpdeskjet940c dialog box. Printer port is LPT1.

I'm pretty sure I don't have the defaults for the
workgroup or correct printer named in the Properties, but
can't figute out what they should be. Can anyone help?

Check to see if your firewall in XP is enabled - if it is, disable it and printing will be OK - just had the same problem last night

I sure can't help but I am getting the identical problem.
Netgear sold me a router with a print server that it turns
out I can't use (not compatible with the HP all in one).
So, I tried to set up the Windows print share and I get
the same error message as you. Netgear won't help--they
say it is a Windows issue. HP won't help. Microsoft
online tech support (for $35) still hasn't answered me.

I have tried switching ports; I have tried reinstalling
all the drivers; I have tried setting up the printer both
locally (as the instruction box seems to imply) and I have
tried setting up the remote computer as on a network.
Nothing but error messages.

The Microsoft instruction brochure doesn't match the
commands I am getting with the network set up wizard,
either.

Sorry, needed to rant.

Indeed - and c dertainly no timely help at this site
either! All these big companies want is a sale - - no
support.

Try this... go to start.....go to control panel...open printers and other hardware.....click add a printer...next...select - a network printer or a printer attached to another computer.....browse for your printer... select and printer and finish. Do this on both of your computers...I was having the same problem and this fixed it for me.....good luck
