Network Places Prompts for password

I am running Windows XP on a domain with a Windows 2003 Server. On one of
our XP machines, when you try to look at another computer through Network
Places, it prompts you for a password. This is causing a problem b/c I have
printer configured on one computer and am linking through it for other users.
It's a Dymo labeler, so it won't let me print. Anyway, I am sporadically
having this problem on other XP machines in the office. All other OS' work
fine. Any help is VERY much appreciated!!!!

Thank you!

Things to check:

1. Are all XP machines XP Pro? Only XP Pro can join a domain, although
Home can use domain resources.

2. Are all XP machine users logging onto the domain? Are those users on
the server?

3. If the XP machines have SP2, is the Windows Firewall disabled or is
the lan allowed as Trusted in Exceptions?

I unchecked the Local Area Connection on the Advanced tab for network
connections to monitor. Is there somehow else I should enable the LAN to be
trusted? I tried using the exception list, but don't know how to get the LAN
on there.

It appears that it is not asking for my password. However, since it is a
sporadic issue, I will have to wait and see Monday morning how it acts :)

Please let me know if I did that right.

Thanks!

I'm not sure Bridget, since it isn't really clear to me what you did and
I don't use the Windows Firewall. However, here are some links to help
you properly configure and understand the Windows Firewall:

If everything is good on Monday, great. If, after looking at the above
links, you still need help, please post back. In the meantime, have a
really good weekend.

Hi Malke,

Thanks for the reply. Well, after turning off the firewall completely, it
is still happening. Is there anything else you can think of that I can check?

Thanks!

You still need to give me the answers to:

1. Are all XP machines XP Pro? Only XP Pro can join a domain,

2. Are all XP machine users logging onto the domain? Are those
users on the server?
