Network path not found - joining W2K to W2K DC

Dariusz Tomoñ

Hi

The problem of joining to domain back again.

I tried almost everything. My case is:

I had PDC on Win NT and all my users logged to it with no problem.
No I'm trying to move to new server (WIN2000 server). I setup Active
Directory and DNS.
Clients with WIN98 and WINXP can join to the domain with no problem but
clients with WIN2000 cannot.
Whenever I try to join them to nwe domain I get the same error: Network path
not found
even though I can ping domain controller and everything seems to by alright.
I tried to created lmhost file but with no effect.

Can anyone has got any idea how to fix that problem.

How did you upgrade the domain? Did you upgrade the PDC to Windows 2000 or
did you create a Windows 2000 domain with the same name as your Windows NT
domain? Have you installed and configured DNS? If so have you verified
that the DC(s) have registered their SRV records in DNS? Windows 2k and XP
clients use DNS to locate domain controllers so it is very important that
DNS is correctly figured. You should also verify that the windows 2k
clients are pointing to the correct DNS server that holds the zone for your
domain. It would be a good idea to run netdiag.exe and dcdiag.exe on the
domain controller to check for errors. Try these articles:

thanks now it works.
Everything seemed to be OK. Now I threw out all DNS entries on clients'
machines and made entry pointing to DNS server on my DC. Then joined to
domain. Then changed DNS entries back to provider's DNS. Now it works.
but ... how can I make my users to use the old profile - now when they log
on to new DC (it is completey new machine with new server and domain name)
they cannot use their profiles.
Is it possible to change sth in the system on client's comps so that they
can use their old profile???

thnx in advance for trying to solve a.m. problem

best regards

Darek
