network path not accesible

hi...i m here agin with a problem...i m tryin g to network 2 win xp
machines...i set up computer names, workgroups and everything...but wen
i try to acces shared folders on one mc from another i get an
error...//(computer name) is not accesible you mite not have permission
to use this network resource .the network path was not found.
please tell me what could be wrong.

I assume you have the proper accounts set up? shared resources given?

Try \\IP\resource

cant ping the other comp2 also...but an icon with its comp2 name exist
on the comp1 in the "computers on this workgroup"

the exact problem is ...
COMP1->COMP2
comp1 shows comp2 in its work gp...but wen i try to acces it by double
clicking it...says network path not accesible...and
comp2 does not show comp1 at all.
HELP HELP HELP i m stuck wiht this

How are they connected together? If it's directly you need to use a
crossover cable.

What are their IP addresses and subnet masks? Can you ping either
machine from each other? Try pinging 127.0.0.1 (your own computer's
loopback address). Do you get a reply?

rite they r conn.through crossover cable...
ip
comp1 192.168.0.1
comp2 192.168.0.2
subnet 255.255.255.0
i cant ping either...
but i cant ping my own computer

Is there any firewall running on the network or on any of the problem
computers. If so, disable it and see if it works. The firewalls may be
blocking any ping requests or windows printer and file sharing.
