Network links in Outlook 2003

I have been searching everywhere trying to find the answer to this to no avail.

In Outlook 2002, when I typed links into an email such as:

\\server\printer-name

The user could click on the link and select "Open it" to open the printer.

Now, in Outlook 2003 when I try to send a link to a printer, it
automatically adds "file:///" to the front of the link (not visible but if
move cursor over link it shows that, telling me it's not interpreting the
link correctly).

Being able to send a user a link to a printer via email is a godsend :)

Please let me know how to do this same function within Outlook 2003, or
something equivalent.

Thanks in advance.

Are you referring to Outlook 2003?

Everytime I try it, it is passively adding file:/// in front of my hyperlink
to the printer.

When you click on it, you get an error message saying the resource is not
available.

I need the link to open the printer like Outlook 2002 did.

Yes, Outlook 2003. Sorry, I don't know how to hide the file:///
protocol, except with a HTML editor.

P.S. make sure that you employ all forward slashes '/' in a hyperlink
with the file: protocol prefix.
