Thank you for the heads-up. I have questions
1) How do I disable sfs so the networking is more useful?
2) I read the munging article and I tried to change my email address in
Outlook Express accounts and I couldn't send email because my server
(Roadrunner) rejected it. Is there a secret I am missing?
Thanks for your help
Leslie
Leslie,
If you're running XP Pro, from Control Panel - Folder Options - View, the last
setting under Advanced settings is "Use simple file sharing".
With XP Pro, if SFS is disabled, check the Local Security Policy (Control Panel
- Administrative Tools). Under Local Policies - Security Options, look at
"Network access: Sharing and security model", and ensure it's set to "Classic -
local users authenticate as themselves".
With XP Pro, if you set the Local Security Policy to "Guest only", make sure
that the Guest account is enabled, thru Local User Manager (Start - Run -
"lusrmgr.msc"), and has an identical, non-blank, password on all computers. If
"Classic", setup and use a common non-Guest account, with identical, non-blank,
password on all computers.
Be sure to disable SFS, and use the "Classic" Security model, on ALL XP Pro
computers. The "Guest only" security model will cause you to not be able to
access other computers.
As for setting your email address, my Outlook Express allowed me to setup a Mail
profile, with my actual address, and a news profile, with my fake address (none
AT example DOT net). Some folk have had to setup two separate identities, one
for email, the other for newsgroups. YMMV.
Cheers,
Chuck
