Network Drive File System Problem

S

Sid Joyner

I'm hoping this newsgroup can advise me. If I should post elsewhere, please
advise.

I have a 300GB Buffalo Linkstation network drive attached to my home LAN
(via the router) and is configured as part of my Windows workgroup.
Therefore, I can read/write to shared folders (music/videos/backups) on the
network drive from other Windows computers on the LAN. However, the network
drive has all of a sudden developed a write problem. I can read from the all
the folders perfectly. But I can not copy or create folders on the drive
anymore. I can create and copy FILES - even large image files - fine and
fast. But I can not copy any folder and its contents or create a new folder
on the drive. I get a message stating "The request could not be performed
because of an I/O device error."

I would think that the file table has become corrupted in some way that
prevents directory structures from being created. Is there a tool that I can
use to try to fix this? Any other suggestions/recommendations/advices before
I offload everything and reformat the drive? (I don't have the disk space to
do that at this time.)

The network drive firmware says the drive status is normal and it's
approximately 51% full.

Thanks in advance.
