why would my network diagnostic tests be failing. default outlook express
mail and default outlook express news fails also network adaptors fails as
well.
I am on a dial up system and can get onto the net and get my mail.
If i exit my trend PC Cillin 2007 internet security the mail and news pass
but the network adaptor still fails. I have also had a few freeze ups in
Hotmail and quite often get the message to test my network in Internet
express. It is costing me connection calls each time I have to dial up again
to get back on the net. thanks

Gosh... I hope it isn't do to the old telephone lines used in your town
and/or the old dialup equipment your ISP is probably leasing. One way to
test this idea is to call another dialup number far away like a few
states away. Yes it will be long distance, but you should see if the
problem disappears quick enough.

I live in australia, I have asked my ISP about the problem but they deny that
it is to do with them. What do you mean call another dial up number far
away. thanks would be interested to know.

it is telling you to check your "network adapter" because it is a assuming
you are on a highspeed connection ...you are using a "modem" to connect
...not a network adapter (so it failing has nothing to do with your problem)

if you turn off PC Cillin and things work ...then I would suspect that
software is not configured properly (and I wouldn't bother with it myself
since you are on dial-up)

make sure you dial-up connection isn't set to disconnect after being idle
for X amount of time ... I think a lot of your error messages are because
most sites out there expect someone to have a highspeed connection
....time-outs waiting for the modem to download huge pages . spam etc.
